Kids can’t help but smile at the giant green-growies and cartoonish creepy-crawlies that make the Camden Children’s Garden a fun place to learn about nature and the great outdoors. Little ones can crawl into the Giant Treehouse to get a birds eye of the whole garden . . . and learn about the wildlife that live in trees. In the Storybook Garden, they can live inside their favorite fairy tales. Bring lunch and enjoy lunch sitting in the giant teacups in the Picnic Garden – but watch out for the comical enormous, colorful metal ants. They show up at every picnic.

Inside the Butterfly Garden, kids can learn about butterflies, as well as the plants that they flock to. There are dozens of butterflies in the Eagles Four Seasons Butterfly House, a year-round environment that offers ideal conditions for breeding. On any given day you could spot between nine and 15 different species of butterflies.

There is something about dinosaurs that kids can’t resist and their eyes will pop when they see the large, red Apotosaurus. Made of painted car parts it is a great lesson in recycling. You can even visit a flower-laden Plaza de Aibonito, designed to look like the Puerto Rican town whose name means “City of Flowers.”

But the highlights are the miniature train that runs through the Garden and the Commerce Carousel. Instead of horses, this merry-go-round has a rabbit, a rooster, a pig and even a hummingbird.
Throughout the year, the Camden Children’s Garden features dozens of family-friendly festivals.

BRING THE FAMILY

Laugh at the cold weather and come outside and play. During the Holiday Festival of Lights, stroll through the Garden's four-plus acres festooned with more than 100,000 lights and animated light sculptures.

COME PREPARED

Bring binoculars.  When you climb into the Giant Treehouse, you'll want to get a close up view of the Philadelphia skyline or spot the birds and butterflies that live in the Garden.

WHO KNEW

The zebra longwing butterfly is one of the many species that live in the Camden Children's Garden's butterfly house.  The zebra longwing caterpillars eat the leaves of passion flowers which contain a toxin that gives the butterfly an unpleasant taste and makes it poisonous to predators.
