Get a head start on your holiday shopping at the Haddonfield Fall Festival. Up and down Tanner Street, you’ll find one-of-a-kind creations from more than 80 artists and craftspeople, all selected through a juried process. Each year, the offerings vary, but you can pretty much count on finding jewelry, ceramics, wood, pottery, photography, fine art, wearable art and who knows what else. However, the selection criteria is pretty tough, so what you find there will be quality stuff.

Shopping is the highlight of the festival, but after you’ve blown your budget, there is lots more to do. Strolling musicians wander up and down the street, horse-drawn carriages give kids rides around town and many merchants and restaurants hold Fall Festival specials.

After tagging along from booth to booth, the kids might get rammy so take them over to the scarecrow making station at the corner of Chestnut and Lincoln. For $10 (it is really a donation that supports local non-profits), you can make a scarecrow, dress it and take it home to decorate the house for Halloween. The kids can get a mini-makeover at the face-painting and hair-braiding stations. Or they can demonstrate their own artistic talent at the do-it-yourself tie-dye T-shirt spot.

BRING THE FAMILY

While parents browse through rows of booths of top-notch crafts and fine art, kids can have their own version of fun, painting pumpkins, riding in horse-drawn carriages, making scarecrows and snacking on their favorite foods.

COME PREPARED

Parking in city lots, at metered spots and near the PATCO station is free. But the crowds get heavy around 1 p.m., so get there early.
