Since the 1600s, when King George gave the property to William Penn in a land grant, the Budd family has been farming the land. Still farming 95 of the original acres, they produce dozens of varieties of crops and the best part is, they are more than happy to let you come out and do some picking on your own. But picking-your-own crops isn’t all that Budds has going on. There is also the Farmers Market and the Country Kitchen. And with all that, you can find everything from Appetizers to Zucchini plants.
If you decide to head into the fields on your own, stop in the market and they’ll supply you with the bags you need to pick and choose your own Jersey Fresh fruits and veggies. Call ahead to make sure that what you want is ripe and ready to go!.
In the Farmers Market, you’ll not only find field-fresh produce, you’ll also find Jersey Fresh clams and crabs caught by local fishermen. And once you get a sample of the hand-dipped ice cream and Belgian waffles, you’ll decide that you can put that diet off for one more day.
But the place to go to do the real caloric damage is the Country Kitchen. All day long, the Kitchen serves one of the yummiest meals you'll ever eat - their homemade buttermilk pancakes served with blueberries or other in-season fruit. However, it doesn't stop there. They serve lots more than breakfast, too. At the Country Kitchen, you can feast on home-seasoned BBQ ribs, jaw-stretching sandwiches, and country boxed dinners featuring seafood, chicken or roast beef accompanied by home recipe potato salad and cole slaw. Everything is take-out, but just carry it to the picnic benches and you have everything you need for a delicious meal.
